Raised in France, at the age of 5 he began studying classical violin, earning his first achievement at a Radio France competition at 7. Simultaneously, he specialized in Persian percussion, including the zarb-tombak, daf and other oriental lutes such as the kurdish tanbur, târ and dôtar. At the age of 12, EH gave his first recital with his father, which quickly led to performances across Europe and the US.

Energized by an insatiable curiosity, he taught himself the guitar before later plunging into jazz and blues improvisation. Upon discovering flamenco, E.H. returned to tradition. Overcome by each genre’s beauty and depth, EH decided to take residence in Andalucía, studying guitar under the tutelage of the late Parilla de Jerez. At the age of 20, he gave a series of guitar recitals that took him to New York, Rome, Krakow and Baku. In 2001, he created Yengi Yol, a group that blended flamenco and Uzbeki music, resulting in several critically acclaimed tours of Europe and Central Asia, and leading to his first live album.

Meanwhile E.H. returned to his childhood violin, tackling the Mediterranean Oriental repertoires of Greece, Turkey and the Balkans. He honed his style, working alongside renowned masters such as the violinists Nedim Nalbantoglu and Serdar Pazarcioglu, in addition to Derya Turkan and Socratis Sinopoulos on the kemenche. He subsequently arrived in Istanbul to learn from the master ud players, Necati çelik and Fikret Karakaya, deepening and further expanding his repertoire in terms of modes and scales. After assembling the Greco-Turkish group Maliétès, he rejoined the Mediterranean Grand Ensemble to perform numerous concerts and record 3 new albums.

At the heart of the numerous projects he directs or has been invited to participate in, he performed a multitude of concerts for the past 10 years and received invitations to international festivals and prestigious venues such as the U.N. in New York, Fez Sacred Music Festival, Cabaret Sauvage and the Théâtre du Soleil in Paris, International Music Festival of Samarkand, Baku etc.

home

about

performer

composer

mentor

contact

website design for performing musician Emmanuel H.
